Danny O'Connell Award
The criteria for an application for the Danny O'Connell Memorial Award presented each year in July at Almonte Celtfest.
Description
When he left us, Danny was a full-time student in business studies at Algonquin College and involved in recreational sports - but above all else, he was a force in the Ottawa Valley traditional music scene.
The Danny O'Connell Memorial Fund was established in 2004, to support Ottawa Valley traditional "old-time" or Celtic fiddlers under 25 years of age who demonstrates musical potential and financial need.
One award will be presented each year.
The value awarded is $2,000.
Eligibility
Candidates will be identified and recommended by the Irish Society of the National Capital Region, the Ottawa Traditional Fiddling and Folk Art Society, and the Renfrew County Fiddlers Association. Each association will identify one candidate. The Irish Society is accepting nominations for consideration to be reviewed by a comittee which will select and submit a candidate.
Application
Applicaants will apply by submitting
a one page letter to Ottawa Community Foundation outlining: Their musical goals and aspirations, their current financial situation and why this award is important to them;
a letter of reference from their supporting agency; and
some evidence of performance (such as a tape, CD, etc.) if applicable.
Administration
The Danny O'Connell Memorial Award is administered by the Ottawa Community Foundation , the selection will be made by a committee established by Dan O'Connell, the Fund Advisor, in consultation with the Ottawa Community Foundation.
